Laws on aggressive dogs outside city limits / no leash law?
My 9yr old 5 lb chihuahua was attacked by some neighbors dogs who are much larger 30 45bs . My daughter was visiting another neighbor and our little dog was with her he was not on a leash . He was about 15 feet from her when another neighbors 2 dogs came off of their property and onto our landlords and attacked him. We have had an ongoing problem with these neighbors dogs. I have been in contact with the Sheriffs department who kept telling me that they couldn't do anything because we are outside the city limits and there is no leash law. When my dog was attacked I insisted that an officer come out and take pictures of my dog. My dog is not seriously hurt, but he has puncture wounds on his head and his neck is swollen. The officer took a couple pictures and took my information and description of the dogs that attacked mine and someone is supposed to call me today. My question is what are the laws surrounding dogs outside the city limits when there are no leash laws, but the dogs are being aggressive? We are in Angelina county, Texas.More back story these neighbors had a lot of dogs who they claimed were strays living on their property. The Sheriffs department wouldn't make them deal with the situation, instead other neighbors had to set up traps and haul the strays to the pound from speaking to different people, 8 14 dogs were caught . The dogs have been aggressive before, but nobody has witnessed the attacks until now. Everyone in the neighborhood knew the dogs were responsible for other attacks because they are always barking and charging cars and people and running around in packs. They also recently came onto our landlords property and harassed another neighbors dog until it broke through the fence to get at them. Supposedly, the 3 4 dogs they have now are theirs and not strays so they cannot deny ownership of the offending dogs.Animal control said because we are outside the city limits they cannot do anything they told us we have to go through the Sheriffs department of animal control. I am not seeking to get money from these neighbors for damages, I just want their dogs controlled and I don't know what can be done legally. I understand their is no leash law where we live but if the dogs are aggressive, isn't their some laws pertaining to that? I am looking into the Texas Health & Safety Code Title 10 Chapter 822 Subchapter B which is on dogs and coyotes that are a danger to other animals. Anyone have experience with this? TIA

Can a dog on prednisone be taken for walks and runs?
My dog is on prednisone due to allergies. He just started on it. One person mentioned that I can not take him for walks about 2 3 miles with some running because the steriods already speed up his heart rate and he could have a heart attack or something. Is this true? Also, does sun exposure effect dogs on prednisone? Thanks Well, there's more to my dog than just allergies. He has very bad skin problems and no matter what we feed him which is one of the best foods , he is still bad. Plus we just found out he has cancer. He'll turn six in November. This is also a new vet so maybe we should get a third opinion since we were trying this vet as a second opinion from the vet we've used for years. The prednisone is taken in pill formAlso, the prednisone is only temporary to see if it'll help him stop itching and clear up his skin.

Dog injured at Labor Day Party...?
This past weekend I hosted a Labor Day BBQ at my house for my husband's family who live scattered across the US. It was great to see everyone I foster dogs and have 3 of my own, and I have 4 cats. The week before I was bitten by one of my dogs while getting between a dog fight which never happens . I was taken to the ER as I had 2 large puncture wounds. I posted the pics on facebook where all the family members wished me well, and get well soon, etc. I was on antibiotics and vicodin. In any case, my husband's aunt shows up with her dog, a small little dog. They came all the way from South Carolina, so I was not going to tell them to leave, but they never called to ask if they could bring the dog. This put me in an akward situation. I could not say, " I am sorry, you and the dog have to go." But, no one knew the dog was coming. I was shocked. i wanted to ask them to leave. if I was injured by my own dog the week before I knew it was risky. It was just a bad situation from the start. In any case, their dog got attacked by one of mine. They left their dog on the floor of my kitchen, a dog who is afraid of cats I have 4 and does not know my dogs. My dog was unfamiliar with such a small animal and lunged at it, resulting in a few small under an inch puncture wounds. They had to take their dog to the vet, and left the party early. The next day my in laws spent the day telling me how " I was so lucky" that the puncture wounds were small and did not need draining and I was reminded that their vet bill was $150 dollars. I assured them that I would not be paying as I did not invite the dog and had no idea it was coming. What do you think?I did leave my dogs outside in a pen, away from this other dog. One of my dogs ran away and my husband had to bring the dog back in to crate her. Our dog was on a leash when it entered the house, and became excited. She is not a vicious animal and " razzled" the small dog to play but when the small dog nipped back things got bad. I have all large breed dogs that play rough. This small dog was left on the floor, next to her owner in a house where there were too many unknowns. She did not bring a crate, or even a leash to put her own dog on.

Who is in the wrong? dog fight.?
I went for a walk this morning with my dog, I had my dog on his lead at all times, I intended to cross my local playing field and then go into some woods on the other side. As I was walking across the playing field I spotted another dog walker on the other side of the field, who had her dog off the lead. I m not sure what kind of dog it was, I m guessing a lab cross of some sort. It was much bigger then my dog which is a Bull terrierThe dog came running up to my dog. I didn't have a problem with this as my dog is very friendly toward other dogs and I like it to interact as much as possible with other dogs. The only reason I had my dog on his lead is because I live in a semi rural area and there are a lot of sheep around and my dog has a history of chasing sheep. Anyway this dog starts jumping on my dog, I could see my dog did not like this and was getting more and more agitated. So I got hold of my dog and just knelt down next to him and waited for this other dog owner to get hold of her dog. She didn't seem to be in any rush, she was about 100 meters way and was walking slowly towards me. I asked her to come and get hold of her dog and she just said that he was only playing by this point the dog was still jumping on my dog and was now snapping at my dogs face. I asked her again to get her dog under control and she started to call her dog, but it just ignored her , and continued to jump on my dog. At that point my dog had had enough and attacked the other dog, he bit in the neck in neck and wasn't letting go. the women was screaming at me to get my dog off of her dog , and she was trying to pull her dog always. I was trying to tell her not to pull her dog away until I had got my dog to let go, I figured if she pulled it would make the injuries worse. I managed to get my dog to let go after a few minutes and we separated the dogs. My dog was uninjured apart from a small scratch on his nose the other dog clearly had some serious lacerations to its throat, that would need medical treatment. The woman was screaming at me that my dog was dangerous and that she was going to report my dog, and I would have to pay for her medical bills. The way I see it, her dog was off the leash and wasn't under control she couldn t recall it when asked. I asked her twice to get her dog under control. My dog was on a leash and was under control until her dog started jumping on it. The only area where I may be at fault is that my dog started the fight. The injuries to her dog were made worse because she kept trying to bull her dog away while my dog was still had hold of its neck. I don t think I should have to pay her vets bills or anything else. what do you think?there are no leash laws where I live.

Mountain Cur dog has sores on stomach & eats plants he's allergic to - please help!?
We adopted a Mountain Cur last year from the humane society. He had every issue from hip dysplacia to, nightmares where he'd do a soft attack if you startled him, not potty trained at all, missing patches of hair on feet, 20 lbs underweight but, he is super affectionate and loves dogs. It's been a year and all issues are gone but new ones have appeared. Before I go on with the issue I must state he is NOT the brightest dog in the world. In fact, he's really sweet and mild tempered but takes months to learn a trick & gets overwhelmed when you use too many words. You can't say, " come on buddy..get on the couch" or he'll just stare at you, can only say... " UP" . Anyway.... The past few months he developed blisters or scabbed sores on his belly, armpits & , groin. I took him to the vet and they gave him some steroids & benedryl said it was probably allergies or that he got into something he was allergic to. After medicine & bathing they all started to go away. Then, 3 4 weeks ago my husband and I took the dogs for a walk around the block and watched a movie. Near the end of the movie I noticed Jax was pacing VERY abnormal when we turned on the lights his face was blown up like he stuck his head into a bee hive. Ears were so swollen they looked like two pierogies stuck to his head and his eyes were almost sealed shut. Took him to a 24 hr ER expecting immediate service but during the 45 minute wait his swelling went down & he seemed normal again so we left The vet STILL didn't speak or note we were there. After a few days of his swelling, 2 trips to the vet for epi shots, and $800 we noticed he was eating the leaves off my Black Eyed Susan flowers in the yard getting an allergic reaction & puking then going back out to eat the leaves... WTH?? lolAll plants were removed from the garden and all of his hives swelling have gone down but he still is getting blisters EVERYWHERE. If I move my hands down his back I can feel scabs every few inches. Looks kinda of like chicken pox on a dog but some blisters are about the size of a pea. He also has large crusty spots under his arms. We have changed the bedding, dusted the house, removed plants, stopped giving treats, no more hiking in the woods, and DO NOT use any fertilizer or poisons in the yard what so ever. My other dog is not showing any signs and both of them are on BLUE dog food for sensitive stomachs. Ever heard of this?? What could it be? I heard about dogs getting allergy tests but it just sounds expensive.

What is the best brand and most reasonably priced dog food for a dog with allergy problems?
My dog has been licking and scratching like crazy and it keeps my husband and I up all night long. After doing some research I found that it could be allergies. I would like to try to switch her food, what is a brand of food that I could find at a grocery store that would be for dogs with allergy's and be reasonably priced?

Help!who owns the dog?
im wondering if anyone could help me from ireland. i had a boxer dog which i had to get to a new home for 2 years back.she was registered in my name on her papers and her chip was registered to me aswell.when i handed her over to her new owners i gave them all her documents and told them to change everything over,i thought they had. this morning i recieved a phone call from a vet miles off to where the dogs new home was saying that she had been brought in by a man who had found her roaming the streets,he brought her home until the owner came forward to claim her.the thing is her details were never changed in her chip hence the vet ringing us.we rang the owners daughter and asked how the dog was doing and she said grand shes doing really well.so i told them what happened and she said she knew nothing about it.i am going to get her back today and take her home so my question is if the details on her chip are registered to me im i the legal owner?i dont know if the papers are still registered to me?can anyone help me cuase i feel im in for a custody battle of the dog no i never wanted money for her as i wasnt selling her for money.the only thing that they could have on her is if they changed ownership of her on her papers.the daughter knew she had gone but wasnt letting on anything to me so was lying.the thing is now is that the man who found her the vet has given her to him because he wants to keep her and gave all her info like microchip number and everything we have a number for him but he is not getting back to us im getting really concerned as he now can change the details of her chip then none of us would have a leg to stand on i cant believe the vet done thatright the ''owners'' got in contact with the man who found her first and he said to us that he is not letting the dog go to anyone until both parties get it resolved.the ''owners'' said that her papers are changed over to their names but the chip is still in ours so i really dont know what to do.plus the vet informed us that she had to be sedated and her nail treated as it was very bad the man who found her paid for it the man who found her wants to keep her,her ''owners'' want her back and i desperatly want her home oh yes she is spayed and on that topic the ''owners'' said to the man who found her if he wants her he can have her if he wants her breeding even though i spayed her when she was one year old i hate back yard breeding.oh so confusing
