How do i do a report on horses?
I want to bye a horse but my dad said that i need to right a report and y i would want one and how i would take care of it etc. so any ideas
My horses are mildly lame...?
My dad and I went camping up in the mountains and we took the horses, so we went on a trail ride that we hadn't been on before and it had a lot more rocks on it than we had expected. Our horses are barefoot and used to it so it definitely hurt their hooves and they probably have a few bruises. All their other hooves are fine but both horses back left hoof is a bit tender and sore. We aren't going to ride them until they are sound again. They can walk fairly fine, but they still limp occasionally and more often on rocks. I'm estimating about four days to a week, but I want a second opinion. How long will they be lame for?Gamer girl I don't need a vet for this, it's extremely mild and I just want to know how long I need to wait before they will be okay. I bet you didn't even read the description if you're going to be rude then go somewhere else. I'm not going to tolerate it.
Not sure about this horse?
So Iam horse shopping And im looking for a hunter. My instructor has this horse that she thinks will be a perfect match for me. But hes kinda intimidating Hes a chestnut warmblood and thoroughbred mix. He is 17.2hh tall and Im use to riding 15.1hh tall. But he could take me from 2ft.6 to the derbies and maybe just maybe. Maclay I hope . But he is a wee bit green. And when he has his bad days he is fricken scary Hes broken his owners leg and cracked someones rib But he seems really awesome and fun What do you guys think? I think I should just tray riding him and see how it goes. Because hes already boarded at my barn right now so it wouldnt be that hard to try him out.By the way its not my instructors horse its this lady at the barns horse. Plus Ive been riding lazy horses all my life pretty much so she thinks it would be a good idea to get something new.
Horse Jumping? (2 questions)?
Awhile ago there was a question on here with a link to a video of someone jumping. It was of some random adult, and I don't think he was in the united states. It was show jumping, and it was really bad. He was slamming all over the horse's back, and I don't know how else to explain it. I know if I was that horse, I would've had that rider off already. I wouldn't have tolerated it. The question I think was about other people's opinions of how bad it was. I can't seem to find the video. Does anyone know what video I'm talking about, I think it's on youtube somewhere, but I can't find it. Does anyone have a link to it?Also, another question. What are some tips about jumping. I haven't jumped much, but over the weekend I was working on it, and I know I'm a bad jumper. I've improved a bit, but still seem pretty bad. What are some tips to get better. I don't get to practice on a horse much, that's probably why I'm not very good.I can't really take lessons for jumping. The horses I normally ride, aren't sound enough to jump, they are fine on the flat though. I ride bareback a lot, and when I ride in saddle, I ride with out stirrups a lot, I ride with the stirrups too though. I practice my two point in saddle and bareback a lot. I've jumped bareback and in saddle. I do have a video of me jumping in saddle, if that helps, but I have to upload it to photobucket first. Facebook links don't seem to work well.and wow, I didn't know he was paralized. I guess he did well staying on, although, I don't think he should've been showjumping like that. I still think it was a mirical that horse let him stay on though. It's finally uploaded. Keep in mind that I wasn't yanking at her mouth, and she likes to take off faster in the canter. It's not my fault, even more experienced riders she does it to. Her owner is working on it. and before and after this I was trying to work with her a bit. And yes, I know that I'm not a good jumper, I used to be worse. I used to go into my two point like 5 or 6 strides before the jump, now I don't do that, but my timing and postion aren't right. Besides the fact I need to keep my heels down, sit up straighter, and keep my shoulders back, what else should I try to work on?s663.photobucket.com albums uu354 luv horses forever ?action view& current GEDC0174.mp4
My horse has a saddle tick?
I have a horse who is 6yrs old and used to be a nice riding horse. Lately though everytime someone rides him he starts twitching his shoulders and withers like a fly is on him. It started off just his left shoulder but now he does both non stop until the saddle is removed. We have rode him in the SAME saddle and saddle pad for the past 2 years that i have owned him and he has never had a problem with it before. The saddle fits him well there are no dry spots or swore spots on him after it is removed. My mom figured that changing saddle pads and giving him a more built up pad might help but it didnt, also changing girths but it didnt. He is starting to get annoying when riding him because he does it so much. He does not turn his head around to scratch at himself or anything he just twitches constantly. He acts like it is a learned habit. We have cleaned the saddle pad and tried different ones but he still does it with any saddle pad i put on him even an orthopedic one. What could i do to stop this or what do you think could be wrong? None of the other horses do it with the same tack because we figured if something was stuck in it that we couldnt see one of the other ones would be twitching too but they dont.
New Horse :D && Moving. . . ?
I had a horse a few months ago as like a share horse kind of thing, and he stayed at my trainers barn and the person i was sharing my horse with ended up fully buying him from me. It has been 4 months and i have just been riding the horses that my trainer owns for lessons. I have been riding for 8 years, but i continue to take lessons, just to improve I am moving soon I am staying in the same state, but i am moving a bit more south, but it is just a 2 hour drive from my old house. My new house has 30 something acres and my uncle owns a building company and he promised to have a barn built there My dad said i could have 2 horses because my mom also rides. I have been riding longer then her So i need a COMPLETE tack list. EVERYTHING you can possibly think of The more tack you list the better chance you have to get best answer. ALSO, I have found 2 horses that i think are perfect to buy.1st horse Breed Oldenburg Height 17" 1 hhWeight I have no idea but he looks very healthyDisciplines Hunter Jumper, English Pleasure, Western Pleasure. Also he does Barrel Racing, I don't know what theta would be classified under Age 7 Not green at all 2nd Horse Breed Oldenburg both are geldings Age 9 also not green, at all Height 17" 3 or 17" 2 I forgot.Weight Also don't now but looks healthyDisciplines Hunter Jumper, and English Pleasure. What do you think? Do you think these are good choices? I don't have any pictures...I am 15, and my old horse was a thoroughbred and 16" 3 I think .My mom says she does not care she just has to be able to Jump with her horse.I think i would make the first horse mine an the other my moms because i like to ride western sometimes too.Opinions? & Tack List
About my horse? a couple of questions?
So i have a 14yr old APHA mare who i got in April. She was trained in WP and EP english pleasure .I love her 2 pieces I ride in EP currently. I have been ridding for 6 yrs and i reaalllyy want to jump i want to hunters jumpers. Not sure which though. but anyways, i think im long over due to start jumping. my first 2yrs were wasted at a terrible barn. The trainer was rude and she didnt take good care of the horses. she lied constantly i also rode pasos when i was there which wasnt what i wanted. but i stiill learned some stuff but not much. i did learn to trot and canter Then i went to different barn which i love my trainer is awesome and taught me so much but, she doesnt specialize jumping. she knows some of the basics but she is mainly a Wp Ep Eq Halter showmanship trainer. i mean i really i like her as a trainer and do not want to hurt her feelings, but i think it's time to move on I have shown the past 3 yrs and i have ne coming up in 2wks. i do fairly well at shows. but as i said, i want need to move oon in my riding. how do i tell her that i want to get a jumping trainer? i mean i would still probably take flat lessons from her once in awhile. but how shoulf i tell her?Alsoo, my mare had an injury a LONNGGG time ago in her right hind leg. she has scar tissue left in her leg so it's puffy if she stands for a long time. the vet said it probably is nothing but she still wants me to take an x ray of her leg before we do any serious jumping like over 2ft . I have done some small cross rails a few times and have lunged her over some small jumpps and she doesnt have very pretty good form. how can i help her improve? she also has allergies. when i ask her to canter she starts coughing and puts her heaad down. she can canter for a while with out getting tired but she doesnt. she stops so she can take a breath i feel so bad for her and i dont want to push her to do something she cant physically do she is in great shape btw How can i help her get good form and how can i help her allergies? thanks in advance im sorry if it is hard to understand bc im very tired lmao. sorry for it being so longg
HOW can anyone abuse a beautiful animal such as a horse?? Please - would like as many opinions to this?
As many of the regulars know Im in the process of going about fostering a horse instead of buying one at the moment. I visited the one I want on Saturday and was horrified about the stories attached to and state of some of the animals not just horses, but dogs and cats too... I left in tears. It just amazes me WHAT type of person can beat an animal to the point of death watch them struggle to walk due to starvation throw a harmless kitten off a bridge?Like to willingly force pain on a beautiful animal is beyond me. Are these people sick in the head? So full of hatred they want to hurt something? Like what level of sickness drives a person to this? The horse Im fostering was starved to the point of death thankfully 6 weeks on hes much healthier bones have been covered and his coat is nice and healthy looking again and I cant wait to have him with me where I can spoil him and show him the love that hes never had. As a 5 year old baby hes gone through so much more than he should have and I cant wait to let him see how REAL people act towards animals.Would love loads of answer to this really want to hear peoples opinions on this sensitive subject.xx
Should I get a horse?
I am a HUGE horse nut. I have been riding English for one year, been doing Natural Horsemanship for a year, and been riding western for about 6 years. Basically, I am a good rider. Not quite an advanced rider, but an advanced intermediate. When it comes to horse care, I know the basics. Grooming, feeding and health are in my knowledge. I can do simple medical things like clean a wound or change dressings. I can recognize several horse problems like thrush, hoof abscess, colic, lameness and being cast in a stall. All in all, i know a bit about horses. I am only 14 and I live in a town. If I ever got a horse, i would board it at my friend's stables. they live only 5 minutes away . I want my own horse that i can share the trails and show ring with My parents don't share my horse passion with me, but they do know the basics as well, we previously lived on a sheep donkey farm. I ask them if i can have my own horse but they say no.They say that it will not be fair for the horse when i go to college and leave him behind. But I will visit very often and the horse will not go without riding, i will lease him out until i am home from college. I have spoken to several people who own or train horses and they say I am a great rider and horse person, but i should not get my own horse. Everyone thinks I should get more experienced with horses. I cannot wait until i am older, because what if i never get the chance to own a horse This is quite a problem for me. I thought i should get more advice so that's why i am asking. Should i get a horse????
How to convince my dad to let me buy a horse?
I have wanted a horse since I was 5. I have asked my parents and they have always told me no. Well i'm almost 15 and I still don't have a horse. I want one so bad. My life pretty much sucks. I don't have many friends at school, I coe home with nothing to do, my parents work 24 7, I have no hobby or anything i'm good at. I feel depressed alot. And no i'm not emo. I'm just an average girl with nothing going my way. I do good in school but my parents are really stict. I come home from school and sleep because there is nothing else to do. Then eat supper and go to bed. And the day starts all over again. But I really love working outside and doing things like that. Today I got so bored I decided to mow the entire yard. Thats sad. But anyways, I started asking my parents about having a horse yesterday. My mom said she has no opinion to it because my dad will only get mad and she said its up to my dad. And of course he says no. He says no to everything I ask. It's like he wants to make me unhappy. So i thought since my birthday is in 13 days my birthday present could be him saying I could buy a horse. The thing is, he hasn't gave me a reason why I cant have one. I asked him and he said, " no" . And I asked why and he said, " because I said so." He has absolutely no reason why I cant have one. I've done my research, I'm getting the money, we have the land and everythings perfect for a horse. I've told him that. But he said he doesn't want a horse in his yard. But we don't even use the back yard. It just sits there to be mowed. But i want a horse for 2 reasons. 1. i love to do work like that. I would love to clean after it and feed it and water it and brush it and walk it, and ride it, and trimming it's hooves, and doing all that work plus more. 2. I have always loved horses and I would love to own one of my own to ride and have a relationship and keep me and it happy. I want a horse so bad. I just feel depressed all the time. I told my dad i'd do the work and pay for it and keep our house clean but it's still a no. How do I convince him? And yes i have the money. I'm about to have 1000 and some dollars. And I saw a 3 year old gelding for 400 dollars that is trained that I want. Please helphorse wizperer ur so dumb. first off u didnt read the question right. and u didnt read the entire question because if u did it said i have over 1000 dollars because were rich as heck. and it said to convince my dad to let me buy a horse not convince my dad to get me a horse. go back to highschool and stop being dumb.Blaze thanks i appreciate it. well i live in salisbury, nc. Could you help me. Thanks so much. my email is northchick95 yahoo.com.
How would I get this horse to listen to me better?
When I ride her out of her field she always tries to turn around and go back t the field. I can get her to listen for a little while, but she keeps trying. And I rode her in the field for the first time today and she was even worse then. I was jogging her away from the barn and she was being very hard to control, I lost my balance a bit and couldn't get her to go straight because she kept trying to go in both directions. How will I get her to consistently listen to me?I don't let her get away with it, I can get her to go where I want, she just tests me a lot.And she's not my horse, she belongs to someone VERY inexperienced. I ride her because they want her to be safe for their 8 10 year old kids. They ride her, too and they're so inexperienced that they almost got a young stallion because he was free, and they would've put him in with their 2 mares. She's tried to go back to the field since the first time I had her out without her friend, probably because her friend keeps whinnying to get her to come back to the field. And I've ridden a lot of horses, one was slightly barn sour, but I worked it out of him. I could ride him every day, but I can only ride this horse a few times a month, so I'm looking for a different technique.
What first-aid items are necessary for horse care at home?
After 30 years of dreaming, we have finally finished our acreage and have it all fenced and ready. After 3 months of visiting numerous horses, I have bought a Percheron Paint cross. He comes home in 2 weeks. I am needing to know what is the basic first aid stuff that can be done at home. Obviously we will involve the vet for major stuff, but I don't want to be running down there for things we can easily take care of. Also, we used to feed some kind of beet pulp mix at the stables in winter, but I don't know exactly what went in it. It was beet pulp soaked the night before with other stuff too?Any help would be great
I can't neck rein this horse?
She is a Western horse. I got her to listen a few times to my cues, but then she just stopped and I had to get her to turn English style. I think I was using the right cues. When I wanted her to turn left I touched the right side of her neck with the reins, put my right foot back, and squeezed. As I said, she listened the first couple of times, but then she stopped listening and I had to use the bit.How can I get her to listen? Or what am I doing wrong?Victoria Did you read the details? She's a Western trained horse and I could get her to listen a few times.I wasn't pulling back on the reins. And I know what I'm doing, I've ridden several horses. I'm just new to neck reining.I think I'll try re teaching her to neck rein.I found this article on how to do it horses.about.com od horsetraining ht howtoneckrein.htm Does it look like it'll work?
