PETS Q & A

What is a good name for an animal rescue? 10 points!!?
I am starting an animal rescue for rescuing small animals rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils hamsters, mice, birds, rats, etc. , and I originally had the name of Second Chances Animal Rescue. I noticed that that name is pretty common, so I want something a little bit more unique. Although what I DON'T like is, " fur angles, or " small and furry animal rescue," or something that sounds immature. But if you have any ideas, I would really appreciate that. Thank you Oh, and it must have Animal and Rescue in the title. Thanks

I rescued a kitten, need advice about blood in the stool and patch of fur gone?
I unfortunetly have a weakness for animals. I was leaving work last night and I heard a small meowing coming from the bushes, so i went over to investigate. Low and Behold is this little kitten, possibly 4 or 5 weeks old? No more than 6 or 7. So, although I already have a full grown beagle mix and 2 new puppies i recently rescued...I took the kitten home with me. I intend on finding a rescue or person to take her, but no rescues have openings and our local shelter euthanizes. I didnt have any cat food, so I gave her some turkey flavored ceasar puppy food which she ate. She didnt drink any water I gave her. I didnt have a litter box. Mind you this was almost midnight. so I put her in the bathroom. She had a bowel movement and when I went to wipe it up, i notice bright red blood in the tissue. It was a normal stool, not too hard and not diarhea. This concerns me. In addition, she has a VERY TINY patch of fur missing right above her eye...could that be from a fight? Or something more serious like mange? I just paid over $250 the other day to get my puppies their boosters, heart worm tests, deworming, etc. I am tapped out for vet bills. So what should i do? I couldnt just leave her there but I feel like I cant afford to take her to the vet. Our shelter is pretty awful so I'm at a loss. ANY ADVICE WILL HELP Also, please dont answer that I shouldnt have picked her up, cant take care of her and blah blah blah. The kitten was homeless and at least I'm trying to help. I'm not trying to keep her long term so please dont preach at me for trying to do the right thing

New cat (rescued stray) urinating/defecating on bedding?
Just under a week ago I received a rescued stray from the RSPCA. He's approximately 12 weeks old, and came to me fully house trained up until now he's been perfectly comfortable using his litter tray, but this morning defecated on my bed, and this evening has urinated in the same spot. Apart from this he's settled in completely, and is comfortable in both the house and with the people in it is this a nervous thing, or to do with marking his territory? And any way to keep him from doing it again? Thanks He's the only cat in the house no other pets, so hopefully shouldn't be territorial

How can I increase my rescue dogs confidence?
Hello,I got my mixed breed of god know's what 3 year old dog from a rescue home 6 days ago. After the first day she was a different dog to her shy nervous self the day before and seemed to have become a lot happier. She kept on rolling on her back exposing her belly which at first I thought was her being incredibly cute but now I've realised she was being submissive. Her ears are always back when approaching me and others and always wary understandabley .I am giving her continuous love and trying a few confidence excercises that I found off of the internet such as 'tug of war' letting her win every time then praising her loads, and also sitting her on my chest and talking to her. When I do this she looks really uncomfortable and embarrassed really. I know as she's not a puppy it will take longer to build her confidence up, so basically any excercises you know of too improve her confidence would be most helpful...P.S She's a small dog about the size of a jack russel.

I rescued chicken yesterday. Need help?
I found a chicken running around downtown yesterday. Not sure how she ended up in that concrete jungle, but I knew it was no place for a chicken. So I wrapped her in a blanket and took her home. I have a quarter acre of land where I live. The neighbors cat gave her a bit of a scare and it used my fence to get up in a tree. It slept there. I need to get her some feed after work today, but would it be OK to to feed her organic corn chips in the mean time?Very well, bread crumbs it is.wonderful, I have plenty of fruit and veggies. I grow alot of produce.

How do I care for a rescued Parakeet?
I found a parakeet on the street near my apartment in Chicago. I've never had a bird, but I couldn't leave him there to die... I bought a cage and toys and got him pellet food and seed treat things. At first, we would get on my finger and just sit there and fall asleep, but now he " bites" at me and backs away from my hand. I've never hurt him or anything, so I don't know what I could have done to made me fearful all of a sudden. He's also gotten MUCH louder recently. I talk to him and give him food and water every day, but I don't want to force him out of his cage or anything. I'm just wondering if he still needs time to adjust or what. I've had him for about two weeks now.

Is this a good idea/considered an animal rescue?
I am thinking about starting up my own little rescue center in my home for small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils mice, hamsters, birds, rats, etc... I have noticed lately that many people can no longer care for their pet, whether it's b c they have to move somewhere that does not allow pets, or b c they can simply no longer care for it anymore. So I have seen people advertise their pet rabbit or guinea pig for free sometimes with all accessories including the cage . That's where I come in and take their pet and take care of it when they no longer can. I keep them at my house in clean cages, eating healthy food and getting all the attention they need. And then I adopt them out to nice families for a small adoption fee that will properly take care of them and only families that agree with the adoption application . This would be a non profit organization, and all the money I make from the animals goes to buying food and supplies for the other animals. B c if you think about it, many people feed gerbils mice and even hamsters, rabbits and guinea pigs to their snakes or other reptiles . And if they can get even a rabbit for free and if accessories are included too, they can either keep it or sell it to feed it to their snake, well what's stopping them? I know some people say to " Good home only," but the buyers could just lie to get a free meal for their reptile. So I am thinking about starting up a little rescue in my room for small animals like that. I am creating a website soon and I just want to get some peoples opinion on if this is a good idea. Thanks Thanks everyone for your opinion and information so far And Sarah, I am a freshman in High school, so I do not have a full time job right now And Terra, thanks for your info. and your website I checked it out and it's awesome Keep up the good work
