Question: Toothpaste/toothbrush for cats?
(Posted by: on 2012-02-06 19:34:10)
My boy, Hershey, eats alot of wet food and I hear its not good for his teeth. I'm considering brushing his teeth, but don't know where to find any brushes or paste made for cats. Please leave a store/ website that sells these things. I'd also like to know your opinion of them if you've tried them. Thanks! |

Well, wet food isn't great for the teeth, but the idea that dry food is much better is a myth. You're wise to feed wet; dry food is bad for cats in a couple of serious ways. Here's Petco's page of feline dental care products: petco.com/ N_23_4294956714/ Cat-Dental-Care.aspx Here's Drs. Foster & Smith's page: drsfostersmith.com/ product/ prod_display.cfm?pcatid= 3497 Here's Petsmart's: petsmart.com/ family/ index.jsp?categoryId= 2769027 and Pet Food Direct's: petfooddirect.com/ product/ 10353/ C.E.T.-Cat-Toothbrush-with-Sample-Poultry-Flavor-Toothpaste petfooddirect.com/ search/ cat-tooth-paste petfooddirect.com/ search/ cat-tooth-brush Here's a video from the Cornell Feline Health Center about how to brush kitty's teeth: partnersah.vet.cornell.edu/ pet/ fhc/ brushing_teeth Here's a site that will reinforce your decision to feed mainly wet food. In fact, it should convince you to feed wet virtually all the time, except for the occasional crunchy treat if kitty really craves them. catinfo.org/ Some time ago I asked a vet about brushing a kitty's teeth and she told me she doesn't recommend it due to the danger of injury. I said I didn't think brushing its teeth would injure a cat. She said it wasn't the cat she was worried about. |

I buy mine at the vet. I use a small finger tip rubber brush. Takes some time to get them used to it. Even if you can smear some of the cat toothpaste on the upper side teeth it will help COmes in fish and pultry falvour |

Petco, Petsmart, and all those other big pet stores sell kitty toothpaste that come in flavors like chicken or fish. For a toothbrush, they probably sell those, too, or you can just get a child or baby-sized toothbrush made for humans (a toothbrush's a toothbrush). It's good for the cat, certainly, but he's not going to like it. |
