Question: Guinea piggy or rabbit for indoor pet?
(Posted by: AmITheWaiting? on 2010-03-09 09:54:56)
I am 13, and already have a hamster. I want to keep whichever pet I get indoors, cause I live in Britain and its bloody freezing. I would put them out in a run in the summer when its nice and warm. Has anyone had an indoor Guinea Pig or Rabbit? How did you keep it? Loose or caged? Did it keep you awake at night? Any useful information to help me choose? Which has to be cleaned out more often? Where to get one? A pets@home store or adopt from a shelter or a ad or an independent pet shop? When I let it out in its run, would anyone need to be around in the house? Uh, What sort of cage would I need, and where could I get one? Im leaning more towards guinea pig, but I don't know! :L I also have a dog, well a family dog :L |

Guinea pig, rabbits urinate and stink up the place big time. Rabbits you have to clean the cage very often. |

Depends on what you want- guinea pigs are messy and can be loud. Rabbits are also messy and poop all over but are more docile and calm. Personally, i'd go for the good old fashioned dog or cat any day. Those kind of pets tend to be smelly, messy and do not have much of a personality to be honest. I hope this information is helpful. Good Luck! |

Go with a rabbit, overall easier to care for and just more active and fun to have around in general. |

I'm biased and would pick a bunny, but I've never had a guinea pig. Mine are house rabbits, in a hutch in my living room. One, Starsky, sometimes bangs his feet in the middle of the night but stops if you get up and give him a row for it! Look at rabbit.org a great website which helped me choose, and The Complete House Rabbit by Carolina James. Look in your local animal shelters, I got Starsky from the cat and dog home for £5, and Cagney from a breeder for £20, and they are both great bunnies. I wouldn't go for a pet shop, cause you won't be able to get any kind of history. I only let mine out when I'm around to watch them, they can destroy things in seconds! My friend has holes in her carpet and approx a foot of wallpaper missing at the bottom all round her hall! Any cage needs to be big enough for them to move around in adequately, the general rule is as big as you can store and afford, as they spend the majority of their time in it. Hope this helps! |

I have a rabbit we keep it in a hutch outside for most of the year but in winter it goes into its indoor cage. rabbits dond keep you awake but i have heard tht guinea pigs can as they make an annoying noise and they are most active at night. Rabbits like a run yun around so if you have a garden this will help although dont get them a lead my one hates it. Rabbits may be more work than guinea pigs but i dont know.Rabbits in a huch will need cleaning out every week or so and if you nwer kepping it inside and in a cage maybe 2 times a week. I got mine and all its stuff in pets at home.If yo were lett it roam around in a room they tend to do the toilet a lot although eberthing is easy to clean up exept thei wee. Do take into account that rabbits live longer on avarage. while in a garden you will have to supervise a rabbit as foxes and birds of pray can get them. Of course you will have to learn more about Guinea pigs to make your dicision. Hope i helped. |
