Question: What kind of bird cage should i get for a sun conure?
(Posted by: on 2010-08-08 15:58:50)
I have a sun conure and I have a decent size cage. It is about 17W, 24L. He is about 3- 4 months old. I want to get a better/ bigger cage that will last a long time, if not forever. I am having a hard time deciding between a dome top or a play top. Every time someone is home, the cage door is left open and he is free to come in and out of his cage. So far, as I can tell, he spends about half his time in and half his time out of his cage. His wings are clipped. Any information would be great. I understand that it comes down to personal preference but just hearing how you have your bird cage set up or what you prefer will help. |

I'd go for a flat-topped cage, just so you can put a playset or toys up there for him. If the dome-top looks prettier, get a play stand that can be moved around the house. Although really, it just depends on your tastes and budget :) |

Get a bird cge for a large sized bird like a parakeet or a bit bigger. I think a bit bigger would be good to get. Yes they do love to play so i would consider the play top. |

Hi there, Get as big of a cage as you can afford. I wouldnt suggest any cages with wire-gauge bars, these are easily snapped by your Conure. Also, bar spacing shouldnt be more than 3/ 4 " inch because your bird could get his head stuck and not back out. Heres an article about Conure cages, the information seems trustable: bird-supplies.net/ conure-cages.htm If you have any more questions, please feel free to email me. -Alexis |

As big as you can afford, and yes, play tops are handy! I have my GCC in a 5ftx3ftx2ft cage and he uses every inch of it! I even have perches and toys on the outside. I love bigger cages because it gives so much room for perches and toys without taking up room for exercise. Cricket loves to sit on a perch and flap his wings really hard. Since you said he spends half of his time in his cage, a large cage with lots of playthings and a playtop would be a kingdom for him. |
