Question: Is it better to place a fish pond in an open area hit by the sun? or in a shaded area like bellow a roof?

I am concerned about algae growth in the pond. I don't want to have green water most of the time. What are the best ways to get rid of algae growth?

The best way to get rid of algae growth is to install a UV sterilizer. It will basically run your water under ultraviolet light that will kill all algae, and other free floating microorganisms. The next best thing is to have plants in the water, or even water lilies on the surface, to eat up the nitrate that the algae feed on.
